Thanks to all the racers who came to Pokagon State Park May 22 to participate in the Pokagon Tri/Du.

Once again mother nature gave us a little drizzle only to reward us with sunshine by the end of the event.

I would like to congratulate all of our racers on a excellent and sportsman like performance.

The top finishes went away with nice prizes and we gave away some real nice door prizes too.

I would also like to thank our 70+ Volunteers,  sponsors, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources parks and Reservoirs division, the Indiana Conservation Officers, the Indiana State Police, the Steuben Sheriffs and EMS departments, and a special thanks to Ted Bohman the Park manager and his Staff for their seamless cooperation.

The race will be on again for 2011 the Saturday before Memorial weekend, that should be the 21st of May.

Randy Strebig

Congratulations to all participants.  2010 results are here.

Current water temperature as of 5/16/2010 is -- 61 degrees.

This race takes place in the beautiful Pokagon State Park of northeast Indiana.  Conveniently located at the intersection of Interstate 69 and the 80-90 Tollroad.  The race starts at 9:00 AM on the Main Beach, which is down hill from the CCC Pavillion, with a one lap (1500m) rectangular swim in Lake James.  The water will unfortunately be cold so a wetsuit is highly recommended.  Rental wetsuits can be obtained from the Three Rivers Running Co. in Ft. Wayne or www.wetsuitrentals.com.   Upon exiting the water the race proceeds up the hill via a lot of stairs and to the secure transition area in the lawn in front of the pavillion.  The 40k bike course follows out the main road of the park and under I-69 to ride on very lightly traveled country roads.  It is mostly an out and back course with a large loop at the outer end.  The terrain is best described as rolling hills.  All of the major intersections are staffed with local and state law enforcement.  Upon returning to the park the run course leaves the transition and traverses some of the most scenic trails in the park.  This is a 10k run for the triathlon and a 5k for the duathlon.  This is definately a challenging but fair run course.  The duathletes will start on the beach with the first wave of the swim and take a side trail to link in to the main trail that is used for the 10k loop.  The finsh line is in front of the pavillion for friends and family to see your great accomplishment.  There are large playgrounds within site of the transition to entertain the little ones while the racing action is out of sight.  Coming into the finish you will be hit by the lovely aroma of pancakes and sausage on the griddle ready for you to devour as soon as you cross the line.  Drinks and fresh fruit will also be served.  The awards ceremony will take place at the CCC pavillion as well.  Chip timing is provided by Mattoon Beach Tri.  All results are sent to USAT for national ranking purposes as this is a USAT sanctioned race.

You must have picture ID to get your race packet.  No ID......No race......No exceptions.

Please be aware there is a $5 charge per car for IN residents and $7 for out of state residents to enter the park on race day.

No alcohol at race site please.

*********************
Due to water temperatures, 30 minutes after your wave's swim start, you must be 1/2 way through the swim course or you will be removed from the water. 2 ½ hr after last swim wave leaves you must be to the bike turn around cone, if you don’t make that cut off you can continue the race from the point where you are, as follows. You will be asked to turn around and start riding the return course, and surrender your timing chip, we will do our best to time you manually.  It is our intention to make it possible for everyone to finish their race, however these very generous time limits have been implemented in order to provide as safe a race as possible.
